krauthammer is driving the same thing now. it is still really senator john mccain. over the past week senator john mccain made six different television appearances just to talk about the benghazi attack and obama administration cover-up of the attack making his case over and over and over again to any blinking red light within sight about how benghazi should not be viewed as an attack on a u.s. consulate but instead be viewed as a democratic lie. an obama scandal. the senate needs more information about this blatant cover-up, says john mccain. john mccain needs more information. this, for example, is john mccain convening a press conference yesterday morning denouncing the scandal that congress is not being given enough information about this horrible scandal that he can't get any answers on. while john mccain was demanding answers at this press conference, that he convened yesterday morning, some of this colleagues, from a committee that he's a member of, were getting answers. on the subject that he was so mad about. john mccain was missing a three-hour high-level closed classified b

room today. did you see this? >> senator john mccain and senator lindsey graham both said today that they want to have watergate-style hearings on the attack at the u.s. consulate in benghazi. and that if you nominate susan rice for secretary of state, they will do everything in their power to block her nomination. as senator graham said, he simply doesn't trust ambassador rice after what she said about benghazi. i would like your reaction to that and would those threats deter from making a nomination like that? >> first of all, i'm not going to comment at this point on various nominations that i'll put forward to fill out my cabinet for the second term. those are things that are still being discussed. but let me say specifically about susan rice. she has done exemplary work. she has represented the united states and our interests in the united nations with skill and professionalism and toughness and grace. as i've said before, she made an appearance at the request of the white house in which she gave her best understanding of the intelligence that had been provided to her. if senato

competition for the title, the republican party is once again turning to this man senator john mccain to lead them on foreign policy. senator mccain continued to lead the charge. as of this weekend, for politicizing the attack on the u.s. consulate in libya, he's not only saying he would block susan rice from being nominated to succeed hillary clinton as secretary of state if president obama makes that nomination, he now says he would block all nominations for anybody to succeed hillary clinton as secretary of state until he feels satisfied that he, john mccain, has received the information that he wants to receive about libya. this coming from the man who didn't bother to show up to the three-hour briefing on libya that was in his committee last week. but he's not embarrassed by that. he wants america not to have a secretary of state until he gets what he wants. even though we don't know what it is that he wants. because it's definitely not more information, because when information is being offered, he's not showing up for the briefings. how did john mccain get to be the repu

about beating them? someone like john mccain isn't that worried. and is a little bit off the reservation and he has been the most vocal voice pushing this in certain ways. and it's hard to see whether those incentives are going to rein him in. the question is do other people who do care about their political future and have national aspirations, as we said, if they're more likely to walk away from this conspiracy that's going happening. >> we saw harry reid shut down the idea of there being a senate select committee, a mega investigation along the lines of watergate on this. we also saw resistance to that idea from richard mur, susan collins, joe lieberman, from republican secretary -- republican speaker of the house john boehner. i felt like that all isolated john mccain a lot. but you know, maybe he stands alone in terms of his influence on foreign policy matters. >> i think he does. but there's distance emerging between him and where everyone else is. and partly, we should remember this was very -- this was wielded as a cover in the run-up to the election partly because th

over the reins from john allen. he took over from general petraeus. while general allen is still running the war over there, he too is caught up in the petraeus affair scandal. his confirmation hearings for his next big job, nato supreme commander, those hearings are on hold while the matter of general allen's only personal relationship with one of the women involved can be sorted out. general allen is in washington for his own now postponed confirmation hearings for his next job and for his own now canceled role in the confirmation hearings for his successor to lead the afghanistan war. in washington he is denying any suggestion that he had an inappropriate relationship with anyone, and the defense department and white house are standing by him while the investigation continues. and while he smits his plans to the president now for which americans are going to remain in afghanistan after the official u.s. troop withdrawal from that war, which is not this year, and it's not next year. that doesn't happen anytime during the following yearle until the very end of the year after tha

president obama is considering massachusetts senator john kerry as his new secretary of defense. that's right, defense. putting the decorated veteran and former presidential candidate in charge at the pentagon and not at the state department, as had been widely speculated. "the washington post" is sourcing its reporting to unnamed senior administration officials. senator kerry is also not commenting tonight. if senator kerry does move to the cabinet for defense or any other post, there will be an immediate political question for the democrats as to what happens to his u.s. senate seat in massachusetts. senator kerry had mostly been talked about as a potential replacement for secretary of state hillary clinton. the post reporting tonight that that nomination for secretary of state is instead almost certain to go to united nations ambassador susan rice. republicans tried to make into a scandal susan rice's comments after the attack on the u.s. consulate in libya. her comments that the attack was thought to be linked to islamist protests rather than an organized terrorist attack. but the a
